In My Wildest Dreams

I once held my promise

in the palm of my hand.

Let it fall through my fingers

like sifting sand to the shore.

Only grains left to remind me

of a dream I once knew.

We danced free

In my wildest dreams

young and wishful

In a time

when time stood still.

Butterflies danced along

upon fields of flowers

my smile was real

and my heart believed.

Nothing could tell me life

wasn’t perfect

or that somehow soon,

it would be.

I danced on

and on

never noticing you were gone

until the music stood quiet

and a cold chill filled the air.

The seasons had changed

but you hadn’t come along.

The flowers rested

In the winter night

Waiting for sunlight

Waiting for color to return

Silence hung heavy in the muted air.

In time

As time moves

Spring returned to greet my face

Butterflies returned to dance

once again in the field of my dreams

Solemnly Tainted

by a lens of yesterday

My heart never beat quite the same

breathing in life

without you.
