Dancing with Delusions (Blogo 8.11 Writing Challenge)

Dancing with Delusions

Darkness of the night sets in hard
A heart chilled by silent memories of the day
The sun abandons the sky for solace
While the moon stands melancholy, in place

She weeps softly in the cover of night
For a love that was never shared
Nursing a façade of Eden found
The moment in time… she dared

Nothing is ever as it seems, buried in the umbra of passion
Illusions magically adorned by the hue of the moon.
Shadows carry their own province of deception
An enchanted vision, playfully silhouettes a darkened room

Dancing with delusion, as the clock strikes midnight
The tune tugs the strings of a hopeful heart
Immersed in a dream, once held in reverence
Sold in pieces to the highest bidder  -  a la carte.

It is not love that torments her battered heart
Rather, the loss of another dream she held dear
Yet kisses are a better fate than wisdom
And dancing, trumps stagnation and fear.

The Art of Deception (A Pantoum)

The Art of Deception

I don't know who you are to me
With your darkness all around
Searching for some sort of clarity
Hushed obscurity gently surrounds

With your darkness all around
Answers wade within silent hazel eyes
Hushed obscurity gently surrounds
Guarded secrets held in quiet compromise

Answers wade within silent hazel eyes
Be careful not to choke on your convictions
Guarded secrets held in quiet compromise
Ignited by works of passionate fictions

The game you play holds power to destroy

Roller Coaster

Heartbeats race in waiting
It's going to be a fun ride
The tracks laid out in front of me
Clearly before my eyes.
Seeking the thrill of adventure
A quick start of adrenaline
Something a lethargic heart needs.
Buckled up, and ready
Safe, as dangerous can be.

The sudden launch, a huge jolt
Twisting, turning, bending
Inclines and anticipation
Gravity lost at an unexpected turn
A quick right, a jerk left
Not sure what the next twist holds
Too late to get off now...just hold on tighter

Stomach turns and churns with each new bend
The ride lasts longer than imagined
A dark tunnel appears from nowhere
Fear of the darkness, fear of falling,
Imagined fears quickly engage
I am alive...I feel it
But why must it take such a jolt
to feel the heart beat within my chest?

The track leads to the last incline
the anticipation builds
I want to jump off – I want to hang on
The last whirl of emotion
Before the final landing comes
Let me off quickly...

So I can ride again

Talking to the Moon

Talking to the Moon

I sat for a moment underneath the stars
Talking to the silent moon.
She smiled softly at my presence
Then beckoned my musings to resume

I spoke to her of my anger and pain
Went on about how hard I had tried.
She quietly and patiently listened…
My plotted revenge, I vehemently justified.

Sharing my tale of malicious betrayal
My pain and darkened despair
She softly whispered her guidance
Right there for me, in mid-air.

“Be honest with me”
She spoke from afar
“What will you gain
Even if you win this spar?”

I thought for a moment
A prize, I could not name.
Was it all about my ego and pride?
Maybe it was justice, I could boldly claim.

She smiled again, before she continued
My heart softening, with her graceful aura.
“Sweet child, forgive, let it go and live in peace…
It was revenge that gave birth to Pandora.”

“The best revenge is NOT to be – like your enemy.”

I took her words and mulled them over
Realizing bitterness had quelled any hint of grace
Void of peace and joy, I lamented
Malevolence, had taken its place.

Liberation engulfed me in that moment
As I inhaled the sheer wisdom of her voice.
The ire of my jaded heart was instantly replaced
With forgiving freedom - my power of choice.

The Smile in Your Eyes - Blogo 14.9 - Smile

There is beauty in your smile
The kind that paints color on butterfly wings
Or the breath of wind that cools on a hot summer day
It lights my world with magic
A gentle softening of my heart

Your eyes tell me your secrets
Hidden within the seasoned lines of time
Eyes never lie
They speak bare truths
Cautious lips won’t dare say aloud

We play a game of risk
The pieces spread across the board
Battle lines marked and labeled
There is nothing I want to fight
Just hold me in your mystic gaze

Hungry to feel your warm touch
Its gentle caress upon my guarded soul
The scent of heaven lingers in my mind
Softly breathing in your veiled tenderness
I let you wander, where no one else can go.

A Poet's Diary (Blogo 10.9)

Sentient moments
Veiled nemesis, from time past
Haunts a grieving soul

*********

A Poet's Diary

You are narrated and chronicled
Within the secret diary of my heart
An abridged version of you, tucked away
Among torn and tattered pages of past

I can feel you here with me now
My heart tethered to a ghost in time
You once roamed freely in my sunlight
Childlike belief, dancing in the summer breeze

I wrote of the clouds as they slowly gathered
Calling up the venomous, torrential rains
And how you were seized by the thieving current
Lost in the muddy waters of time

I was told by some, you drowned one day
They pleaded fiercely with me, to finally move on
My unyielding heart held a tight-fisted grasp
Incessant searching, believing, grieving...a poet was born

Turning to the pen and paper
A writer deluged in the murky waters of past
Constantly seeking answers, if only the words would reveal
Plagued by a sating hunger.  Unquenchable.

My prose, my musings...they collocate
on the dark, musty pages of yesterday
 Serving as my passage to
The life (they say) I live today
