Whitewashing the Truth - Blogophilia 47.8

We live in a world where it seems the norm
To be something we’re not
Whitewashing the truth
So as not to offend
We have to bend
Almost to the point of breaking

Gone are the days when the truth ruled high
For this truth, a man like Martin Luther King died.
Gone too, are the days when a man would fight
To bring injustice into the light
Expose the lies, and the world would cheer
Somehow the truth seemed to bring us near

But John F. Kennedy, as much as he tried
Both fought and played among the lies
Plagued by the power he held in his hand
A short life he lived, when he made a stand

Today it seems the truth is far
Driven by whom media makes a star
Distorted and arranged to fit
Their gain creates the offer

It’s what is taught to our sons and daughters
They’re lost in a mix of distortion
It’s hard to tell what’s made up or real
And no one is free to say what he feels

One wrong word and you’re crucified
Unless you’re the darling of the day
Then you can say whatever you wish
Serve it up with nicely with spoon and dish

But I will speak my thoughts to your dismay
Because my brain was brought up that way
I don’t speak to put anyone down
I speak so I am not lost in the sound.

DeAnna Metcalf

I find it interesting that I read, wrote and posted this without even realizing that I had the wrong Kennedy in my mind.   I had a thought in my head and just ran with it, despite the fact that the prompt was Robert Kennedy instead of John.   This kind of makes me laugh at how similar that is to my last relationship.  I saw what I wanted, wrote the story I wanted and when it was time to divvy up the points...I was surprised.

Well, I can't change my last relationship, but I can change a blog post...so I am :-)

Bonus Points:
(Hard, 2 pts) There, Their, and They're - correctly use two, don't use the third at all

  5. Social media is the worst of the worst in terms of truth - you can post things that are complete fabrication (like our names??) and it can become truth or be repeated as truth by others who don't check or challenge. I suppose there's nothing new in that except the pace it spreads

    1. I know Tyler....perfect case and point on the name thing. I laughed about the Powerball Post and how many people just read, believed and posted that if we split it up, it would be $4m instead of $4

  6. Yes, if you are the Darling of the Day, a status that can change on a whim.

Ozymandius is the tale of our times.

    1. Ah yes...the fall from grace must be devastating. I kind of like it here in my quiet little world where my mistakes pretty much stay with my friends.

    1. Thank you Gerard... I had the one prompt all wrong, but I liked the story it told so I had to improvise the post a bit. I completely missed that I was using the wrong Kennedy! Thanks for reading

  9. John or Robert - they are brothers - so it's no wonder the older one would surface first! This is splendid! 8 points, Earthling!! And did I tell you that I am the DARLING of every day? heh heh

  10. lol sometimes changes they need to be made. And hey, we write our own history books. So the truth of my history may be whitewashed and painted over. We ninja vampire hunters need it that way.
