The Web - Blogo 9.9 Collateral Damage

The Web

Midnight fires smolder
Bringing warmth to a winter chill
Resting comfortably beside the embers
Blissfully unaware

Deception lurks in the darkened sky
Hidden within cunning shadows
The tender strings of desire
Hang silent, waiting to ensnare

Rise to frolick around an entrancing fire
Freedom, a breath in the wind
Collateral damage of a simple choice
A jovial dance, halted in midair

The glowing blaze flickers
Illuminating a tranclucent cell
Carnage revealed within the light
Trapped -  a viscid, satin lair

Captive to a spider’s web
Wrapped tightly in a silken cocoon
The slow burn of venom seeps in
Evoked from a poisonous share

Paralyzed and unpardoned
Feeling life, slowly slither away
Irony speaks victual life to one
Yet offers another, baneful despair.

  1. This will take several readings to settle in. Closure overwhelms.
For me, one of the best poems I will read this season. I would suggest printing this out and magnetizing it to your refrigerator. :)

    1. Thank you Michael - what a generous compliment you give! I should take heed to your suggestion... Some days the spider, some days the lunch.

  2. Love the way you built this, had to read and then reread it - such a rich atmosphere

    1. Thank you Tyler. Funny where our mind takes us... I hope there is enough clarity in the metaphor to enjoy the richness.

  4. Such a dreadful path that we tread, yet we do, often getting ensnared - some to their content - some to their demise. Nothing seems safe in a web! 8 points, Earthling! - Marvin Martian

  6. Ahhhh, so many beautiful layers to this eloquent poem. And such a conundrum of choices we face at different junctures of our lives. The imagery is so gorgeous, and you know I do love a good walk on the dark side. Brilliant my dear! xoxo

    1. Thank you Colleen. Life is a conundrum on its own and even more so, in the dark. Nothing like an adventure!

    1. Seems some of us get caught up in the beauty and fail to recognize the danger...or we see too much danger to get close enough to admire the beauty... there must be a sweet spot somewhere <3
